Please support our local program with your donations!
Hi all, I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! I am writing to ask for your financial support
for our local Chittenden Program. As you know, Special Olympics does not
charge athletes to participate in our program. That does not mean
everything is free. Even though our local program is entirely run by
volunteers, we have to pay for our facilities, equipment, uniforms and
competition fees. Chittenden pays for all of this through fundraising
events (such as our Flower Sale and our Calcutta) and donations. The
more donations we receive, the less fundraising we have to do, it's that
simple. So, I am asking for your financial support. Below is a list of
the sports we offer and the cost per athlete for each sport. Please
consider donating to our program!
Sport | Athlete Sponsorship* |
Floorball | $30.00 |
Golf | $60.00 |
Soccer | $60.00 |
Bocce | $60.00 |

2019 Special Olympics Vermont Fall Games Event Guide

2019 Special Olympics Fall Games update from Kaila
We are officially a week away from the kickoff of
Fall Games 2019! As promised, attached you will find sports schedules
for softball and soccer as well as a master list of track entrants with
events. A few quick notes by sport:
Please be sure to review these documents carefully
and let me know if there are any errors or comments to be made. I am
human, I do make mistakes
I will be sending rooming lists to individual program coordinators.
TRACK
- Please review the entrants with events list to be sure each athlete is registered in the correct events. The numbers next to each event denote current division. If there is no division listed next to an event, then we are missing a qualifying score for this individual. Please send any corrections my way as soon as possible. I will send updated division sheets early next week when these missing scores are filled in.
SOCCER
- Saturday games will be shortened preliminary games to be able to accurately division teams into appropriate levels. Based on the 9 traditional teams registered, we will either have a division of 4 and a division of 5 or 3 divisions of 3. These divisions will be determined at the end of play Saturday with brackets provided to coaches for Sunday’s schedule. There should be ample time in the schedule to allow for lunch and to support athletes in completing the Healthy Athletes screenings (don’t forget there is a chance to win $500 for your program with every athlete screened!)
- Goals update! We received some grant money to purchase true 5v5 soccer goals that measure 12’ by 6’ as outlined in the Special Olympics 5v5 soccer rules. We are excited to use these next weekend!
SOFTBALL
- There was only 1 traditional team registered in this games, so they are playing in the Unified division with the other 6 teams. Please note that there is not a specific break in play on Saturday to allow for lunch so teams should be sure to get lunch and go through Healthy Athletes on their own.
GOLF
- We are still awaiting a few final pairings for golfers, so these tee times will be shared early next week. Skills golfers should plan to start at approximately 10AM and course golfers will tee off between 10AM and 12PM.
More to come next week!
Best,
Kaila

2019 Chittenden Bowling Practice
Bowlers, are you ready for some changes? Champlain Lanes has closed and that will make things different. The first change is we will have practice Sunday mornings from 9:00 - ~11:30 starting 10/13/19 at Spare Time in Colchester.
The second change is that without Champlain Lanes, there are not enough lanes in Chittenden County for the statewide bowling competition at Holiday Games. So, Special Olympics Vermont will hold two regional competitions, one at the Twin City Family Center in Barre which we will attend and the second in Rutland for the southern Vermont teams. The top two teams and the top two individuals from each division at the regional games will advance to the Holiday Games. The teams and individuals who do not qualify for Holiday Games will continue practicing but not compete at Holiday Games. That is a big change!
Here is the schedule
In addition to bowling, we will be offering Floorball and Swimming. Since not all bowlers will advance to Holiday Games, we will allow bowlers to also register for either swimming or floorball.

2019 Fall Games Housing canceled
Hi all, unfortunately, I am announcing that Chittenden will NOT be staying overnight at Fall Games this year. I know you were looking forward to staying over but one of the hotels gave away the Special Olympics block of rooms without warning (it is leaf peeper season). Since Chittenden is the nearest delegation to St. Albans, we are loosing our rooms to delegations coming from further away. We are all still welcome to stay for the dinner and dance which will be held at the Collins Perley Sports & Fitness Center Saturday evening. I am sorry we cannot stay overnight. Dave :-(

2019 Basketball Practice Schedule Change
As was announced at the April 28th practice, we will be splitting basketball practice into two sessions on the remaining Sundays at Essex High School starting Sunday May 5th. Athletes have been assigned to either the first session from 2:00 - 3:15 or the second session from 3:15 - 4:30. Since we are doing this to make practice more manageable and fulfilling for athletes, we will not allow session one athletes on the courts during session two and we will not allow session two athletes on the courts during session one. Athletes are free to stay and watch from the sidelines.
You may find your assigned session by clicking on the image below. Thank you for you understanding and cooperation!

Parents and guests
You are all welcome to come to the games to cheer the athletes on. Each days competition will
begin at about 9:00 a.m. On Monday the last
race will end around 3:00 and awards will be done around 4:00, and on Tuesday around 1:30.
Snow conditions and weather
As you are well aware, mother nature has not been cooperating with our
winter sports program. Conditions at Pico Mountain are being assessed
daily. Please be prepared for changes in events and schedules to adjust
for conditions. Pico Mountain will do every thing in their power to create
a good competition environment but we need to be prepared for changes
and to go with the flow.
Team travel
The Chittenden delegation will travel by car pool caravan leaving from
the SOVT office in South Burlington and returning to the same place. You
should be at the Special Olympics office by 2:30 PM on Sunday, March 17th. We will return by 3:30 PM on Tuesday, March 19th.
A phone list will be brought so that we can make cell phone calls if
our return time changes significantly. Please anticipate that we may
return early or late and be available for pick up.
Clothing
The athletes need to have clothing appropriate to being outdoors for two hours on Sunday evening at the opening ceremony, for competing on Monday and Tuesday, and for the dance on Monday night. The theme of the dance is "80's". The dance will end at 8:30 again!
Daily Logistics and Packing
On Monday morning before breakfast, we need to be ready to board a bus
at 8:00 to go to Pico Mountain. Athletes must have everything that they
will need until 4:00 pm when we will return by bus to the Condos.
Breakfast will be served in the Pico Mountain Lodge. Cross Country Skiiers will take a bus to the cross country venue after breakfast. On Tuesday we will need to clear everything from our our rooms by 8:00
AM, before breakfast, and car pool to the ski area. We will not be
returning to the Condos. We will leave Tuesday afternoon directly from the
ski area. Lunch will be served at the Pico Mountain Lodge. In order to make these moves without fail, athletes will have
to pack very carefully. Athletes should bring one bag for ski/snowshoe equipment and one other bag for clothing. Please do not over pack! Bring
only those items that they really need. Please leave your electronics
at home. Cell phones are okay to bring but cell reception may be poor. Please remember, Special Olympics staff and volunteers are not
responsible for your stuff!
